Tororo North MP Owino Nicholas Simon Part of Uganda’s Official Parliamentary Delegation to Pakistan for Climate Change Conference

Hon. Owino Nicholas Simon, popularly known as JAFUFA Member of Parliament for Tororo County North, is part of Uganda’s official parliamentary delegation to Pakistan for the International Parliamentarians’ Conference on Climate Change scheduled for October 19–20, 2026, in Islamabad. The legislator will participate in the international engagement as Uganda seeks to strengthen parliamentary diplomacy and promote cooperation on climate change, environmental protection and water security. For Hon. Owino, the conference carries particular significance given my experience as a model farmer who mentors and supports households in small-scale vegetable farming. He says climate change directly affects both his agricultural activities and the livelihoods of his constituents, making environmental protection a priority close to his heart. “Climate change affects me directly as a farmer, and it equally affects us as a country and the people represent in Tororo County North. It is an issue close to my heart because I understand the importance of agriculture to our livelihoods. We must find practical ways to protect our environment and encourage sustainable farming practices that will benefit our communities today and in the future,” Owino says. The official delegation was briefed by the Speaker of the 12th Parliament, Rt. Hon. Jacob Oboth Markson, ahead of the visit. It comprises Hon. Bagiire Aggrey Henry, Hon. Owino Nicholas Simon, Hon. Namutaawe Joan and Hon. Ogama Alli Ismail, accompanied by technical staff led by Dr. Deo Arinaitwe Rugyendo. During the briefing, Speaker Oboth emphasised the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening Uganda–Pakistan relations and advancing practical solutions to climate change and water security challenges. He urged the delegation to prioritise Uganda’s national interests, participate constructively in the conference, uphold diplomatic protocol and represent the country with integrity. As a member of the official delegation, Hon. Owino has an opportunity to contribute his grassroots farming experience to discussions on climate action and explore approaches that could support smallholder farmers and households in Tororo County North. His participation also reflects the connection between international climate discussions and local development priorities, particularly the need to protect the environment, promote sustainable agriculture and strengthen household livelihoods.
